The Terrano, the ancient wine which we find described in the Roman epics of Plino, is a dry wine with a particularly characteristic taste, ideal for game and meat dishes. With the purpose of drawing attention to this typical local wine, the Terrano Wine Route was founded in 1986, and crosses about ten country towns from Sistiana to Opicina, among which the most characteristic is Monrupino, and consists of 18 trattorias which serve typical local dishes accompanied by the Terrano wine. This street is located in a typical zone of particularly interest from a touristic and natural point of view.
At the end of the route, one finds within a few minutes distance the famous "Grotta Gigante" (gigantic grotto)—one ought not to miss the occasion to visit the largest cavern for tourists in the whole world, and the Marian sanctuary of Monte Grisa with its breathtaking panoramic view of the Gulf of Trieste.
