Major points of interest near GradoThe Friuli Venezia Giulia region takes its name from the diverse people who live there; from the most numerous Friulani, to the coastal people of Venetien origins, to the Giuliani who live in the land east of the Isonzo river, the rapport between these peoples has not always been cordial, in fact it was often the cause of bloody fighting; as a frontier territory and therefore highly contested, it has often been the site of encounters and incursions. Perhaps for this reason, history has left relevant and numerous traces throughout the region which extend from prehistoric times to the Second World War; important Roman remains can be found nearby Early Christian remains; vast battlefields from the Great War are nearby the sad national monuments of the Second World War; in this region, numerous historic cities of Venetian, Hapsburg or Longobard origins can be visited with only a short trip; with a short distance from the coast, whether it be the shallow, sandy coast of the lagoon or the deep, rocky coast of Trieste, one can find the notable skiing locations of our region.
