With ancient origins, Gemona saw a period of flourishing thanks to the economic traffic brought due to its favourable geographic position. With a very interesting historic centre where one can find the Roman-gothic Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most important medieval religious monuments of the region; one can follow the lovely Via Bini with its edifices completely restored to the original state.
It is also recommended to visit the Museo d’arte sacra (the Museum of Sacred Art) and the Museo Civico; every year between the end of July and the middle of August, the historical re-enactment "Agosto medievale" is held, during this re-enactment the street are literally full of people dressed in period clothing and objects coming from the Middle Ages.
