To visit Trieste, it would be ideal to start with the Piazza dell’Unita d’Italia, the most spectacular piazza of the city with its edifices of eclectic taste built after 1870; from here take Via dello Squero to the heart of the Citta Vecchia, at one time the centre of the life of Trieste. From there, continue in the same direction to see the Teatro Romano (Roman Theatre) and then continue further until you reach the Castello di San Giusto (the Castle of San Giusto, which from its position on the hilltop dominates the city of Trieste. Inside the castle is Civico Museo del Castello di S. Giusto, which contains a splendid collection of weaponry. Along the road returning to the center of the city, one finds among other things the Orto Lapidario and the Civico Museo di Storia ed Arte (the Civic Museum of History and Art). To mention just a few of the numerous public museums, we would be amiss not to include the "Museo Rivoltella" which is a modern art gallery founded in 1872, the "Museo di Storia Naturale" founded in 1846, and the "Civico Acquario Marino" which is certainly one of the most loved and most visited of the museums of Trieste.One might also consider visiting the innumerable beautiful edifices, the various places of worships whether they be Catholic, Jewish, Orthodox or Protestant, and the many historic cafes and theatres.
